INTENSIVE CARE UNIT- BY GOVT OF JAPAN
Pakistan's first free-of-cost intensive care unit for blood diseases and Thalassemia was started in 2012. The Government of Japan awarded a grant of PKR 9.5 million for setting up an ICU for thalassemic and pediatric cancer patients- the first project of its kind in the country. Dr. Asim Qidwai first proposed the idea in 2011, and the ICU was established in 2012. Dr. Qidwai dedicated the project to the patients and their families. "We can't accommodate all the patients, but we will try our best to provide treatment to those who come to us." Dr. Asim Qidwai.
RED BUS- A CONCEPT BY DR ASIM QIDWAI
Dr. Asim Qidwai presented the concept of Pakistan's first Blood Donation and Thalassemia Advocacy Bus to the Government of Japan. The idea was appreciated and the grant allocated for the project RED BUS by the Governmnet of Japan. AMTF RED BUS is a state-of-the-art fully equipped bus related to blood donations and awareness regarding blood disorders, especially Thalassemia, in Pakistan.
SALIFOME
AMTF is proud to be Pakistan’s pioneer in having Blood Donation Area with the concept of “Saving a Life in Front of My Eyes”. This blood donation center is one more star on AMTF’s shoulder ensuring safe and screened blood availability for children suffering from blood disorders and building an emotional bond between a donor and recipient in real time.
DENTAL CLINIC
AMTF established a dental setup at international standards in collaboration with Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA). This setup comprises of two dental clinics for Thalassemia and Blood disorder patients. In 2021, Managing Director of IMANA Akrama Hashmi visited AMTF and appreciated the facilities and services.
Daycare Transfusion area
A State-of-the-art 15-Bedded Daycare Transfusion area is providing transfusion services with the strong vigilance by a qualified medical team. This area established in compliance of the concept SALIFOME, where blood donors can see their beneficiaries directly, building an emotional bond in between the two. We have provided around 51,000 transfusion services to Thalassemia and blood disorders patients for the last 5 years.
laboratory
The AMTF is dedicated towards providing competent laboratory services to the patients using modern technology, combined with professional excellence and personal care. The international standard lab diagnostics and radiology services including (X-Ray, Dental OPG, ECHO, and Ultrasound services) are free to the registered patients and available at very low cost to the community.
Advance Molecular Diagnostics and Research Center
AMTF in collaboration with IMANA and local donors established international stan- dard (BSL II plus) Advance Molecular Diagnostics and Research Center. The facility has been designed in compliance with the guidelines from WHO with the aim to: Aid in the better treatment of genetic diseases and cancers by providing mo lecular diagnostic services. The services are free for registered patients and available at very low cost to the community.
HDU & WARD
The Thalassemia Patients require round-the-clock dedicated monitoring and specialized care. When sick, to manage this, no thalassemia-specific ward exists in any healthcare facility across Pakistan. Dr. Asim Qidwai proposed this idea of 24/7 inpatient services to the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). In 2019, TIKA funded the project, and we set the 07-bedded state-of-the-art Thalassemia ward and 03-bedded High Dependency Unit (HDU) at AMTF. Such services are only available at AMTF across Pakistan.
BLOOD BANK
Besides the continuous need of financial support from generous people and organizations, AMTF requires sustainable supplies of healthy blood for children suffering from different blood disorders. This can only be possible from healthy blood donation activities and blood bank services. The AMTF Blood Bank is equipped with the state-of-the-art, fully automated equipment and using cutting edge technology for blood and related products. Our Blood Bank is registered with Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA)
